That’s a Wrap!

Wow ! What a great wrap up to season one of The Designing Diva Show on 96.9 TKK.

We were very fortunate to have the best and the brightest Boston has to offer in the wonderful world of design.

A special thank you to all of my guests, very talented artists, and business entrepreneurs for making it such an interesting and very informative season.

We have been very busy this spring with many projects; including our Spring/Summer sale featuring a complete kitchen (based on a 10×10 layout) for under $10,000 stop by and see our new Best friend The Closet Factory,We have added two new divisions ,Master Closet Suites and Mudrooms.

Check out the first completed Designing Diva Show Video Promotion in the previous post. We are also busy planning our next Designing Diva Show for a new season. Please stay connected to our blog for futher information.

We also are planning a complete bath promo for the April /May so stay tuned-in to the blog. Please check out our gallery as we are uploading new completed project pictures.

With Summer quickly approaching, here are some design ideas to spruce up your space:

Apply a bold color into the space, and transform your design. This is a very inexpensive fresher-upper for stale color schemes. A gallon of paint and materials are minimal in comparison to the monumental changes it will produce. Pick a wall, and paint itStop by Kitchens on the Fly to check the new colors for 2012. It’ll feel like a new room, instantly.

Try also rearranging the furniture. If the room is filled up with mostly large objects, try replacing them with smaller objects. Or find clever ways to partition the space using the furniture, therefore providing the illusion of “more rooms” within. Think disconnecting sections by perspective. Start by finding the smallest most basic and disjoint elements of the space, and then build arround them.

These are only a couple of very affordable ways to completely change the overall look and feel of a space. You will be so happy to achieve this simple reformation with out even breaking the bank. For more great and inspiring ideas on how to design on a dime visit our showroom at Kitchens On The Fly in Pembroke, Ma.

Until then, my Devilish Divas, enjoy these spectacular days of Spring!

So, raise your glass and dream!

Your Designing Diva says:

Some of us are blessed with large families and for me there seemed to always be a reason or “not” to go over to one of my Aunt’s house to celebrate something. I grew up with 25 cousins in tow and lots of uncles and aunts. A generation who never needed a particular event to set the table and serve up a fierce meal.

Maybe that’s why I have such a passion for setting the right table for the right occasion. Whether it is a simple outdoor picnic, clambake, or a romantic dinner for two I always make a statement on the table. It really does wow the guests when they arrive. I always start with a particular theme and create around it with beautiful things that inspire me. I like to use a mix of natural materials that I might find on a walk or in my back yard, and then switch it up with treasured finds from my more broadened travels.

I also do use my favorite stores for some unique pieces. What ever the occasion, always make it fun, and use your imagination. If you need help with some incredible looks check out The Designing Diva Show web page for the need it to read it segment and some pictures to assist you before you start.

Another helpful hint for those budget minded people is collect as you go and store things you may find at a yard sale, flea market, or antique store. This way you do not have to break the bank when you are conjuring up new ideas to create a fabulous look.

Always use color. In a big way just make sure it all makes sense, and flows beautifully with the rest of the decor. Linens are huge and often if you have a favorite fabric store and search for have to have pattern you can use alot of folding and draping with out ever
having to stitch a thing.

Do not be afraid to use different chairs or tables as focal points. I am not a big fan of matchy match when it comes to design in general.

Dishware can get expensive but thru the year. So, watch for big sales, such as after christmass, and after special occasion sales.

Big or small, your guests will never forget how thoughtful you are when sitting down to the perfect Table!……………Enjoy and celebrate with some one you Love!

Color Me Diva

Your Designing Diva Says:

We got a lot of calls regarding this week’s show on paint, how to choose the right color, and  whether it is an application on the out side or on the inside. Plenty of people responded to how difficult it is to choose.

We offered up ways to make it a little easier and also talked with our expert Tom Carten from Thomas Interior Painting about what products are on the market to help in various phases when it comes to specific applications.

We got many questions asking whether you can or can not paint vinyl siding. The answer is, “yes, of course you can,” and many of the leading paint manufacturers sell a product to do just that. I like to recommend a primer such as Ben Moore’s Bonding Primer called Stiks. It costs about $40.00 per gallon, covers up to 350-400 square feet, and typically you only need one coat. I would then recommmend a latex paint also in a Ben Moore with a low luster sheen to it or even a soft gloss depending on what your exposure is, and make sure it is a latex paint. You can decide for your self how many coats to apply we like to suggest at least two coats.

Another question was how to match the color of old siding when repairing a section of the exterior and of course with today’s technology you should be able to bring a section of that siding into any professional paint retail store; such as a factory paint or your local lumber yard, and they should be able to match it almost to perfection. When trying to find out which color to choose for the house have your painter paint at least 3 colors on different sections and look at them at different times of the day. Morning, afternoon, and evening. Like anything in design everything appears different in different types of lighting.

When choosing intertior colors the same applies. I like to suggest picking only 3 colors and applying them to 2×4 foam core and place them on different walls at different times of the day prior to making your final choice. You could paint directly on to the walls, but then you can not move them around the room. Always consider, as well, that if your room is small, you want to stick to colors that are monochromatic, as darker colors will close the space in, and if you have a larger scaled space you can use a little more of a darker color scheme.

Also, check out my Need It To Read It segment which you can get on the radio web page 96.9 TKK and click on The Designing Diva Show to obtain  some great insight on how to whip up some fierce colors for your space.

Next weeks show will be about, “Table Design.” With the beautiful weather we should be getting, I say, “should,” because when living in New England, you never know. A lot of us will be dinning al fresco or hosting functions inside, and having a fabulous table setting really impresses your guests. So, listen in on May 28 th at 7.00 P.M. to find out what a diva you can be! Until then have a great and diva-licious week………….The Designing Diva.
